![]() This is why Conqueror with 18" guns are uncompetitive, because the increased caliber is just short of letting it share Yamato's overmatch ability. ![]() ![]() But the whole reason that Yamato's fewer 18.1" guns work is that it trades DPM for ability to overmatch 32 mm (the same kind of tradeoff as in tier 6). The problem here though is that the 0.1" increase in caliber on Yamato guns allow it to overmatch 32 mm plates while 18" guns on Conqueror can't (because obviously that 0.1" makes all the difference). The Bismarck trades poor alpha and poor rear turret angles for exceptional tankiness, very strong secondaries, hydro, and faster reload (not enough to eliminate the DPM gap, but it does close it somewhat).Īt tier 10, up until France, you have either twelve 16" or 16.5" guns or Yamato's 18.1" guns or Conqueror's 18" guns. Also at tier 6, bow and stern armor and most weather deck thicknesses are 25 mm, which means that 15" guns can overmatch while 14" guns can't, so the Warspite, QE, and Bayern having fewer 15" guns trade DPM and alpha for overmatch.Īt tier 8, you have 15" guns or 16" guns, but neither can overmatch the 32 mm bow, stern, and deck armor standard at that tier. We can look at tier 6, 8, and 10 to see why France (and 457 mm Conqueror) can potentially be problematic.Īt tier 6, you generally have eight 15" guns or twelve 14" guns. The difference is gun angles of the rear turret and overmatch threshold, and the comparative firepower levels at their respective tiers.
